Please keep in mind that this app is still young and being tested. Before you make a real Namkha, have the results checked by someone experienced in these calculations.
A Namkha is a shamanic astrological thread-cross that comes from Bön, the pre-Buddhist tradition of Tibet. Thread-crosses serve a range of purposes, among them harmonization and protection. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu rediscovered a method for calculating and constructing such thread-crosses for the benefit of all sentient beings. Their activity rests on the principles of Tibetan astrology, and they are empowered with a corresponding ritual.
The Namkha Calculator performs four types of personal Namkha calculation, one for each astrological period of a birth:
The year and the month Namkha are available now; the day and the hour Namkha are coming soon.
This is the first program to calculate these types of Namkha, which are described in Namkha: Harmonizing Energy of the Elements by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu. It brings the full potential of the method, and supports practitioners and everyone else with an interest in it.
The program was created by two people: Anna Weiss, a Namkha expert and Tibetan astrologer who has worked directly with Shang Shung Publications Italy, and Simon Weiss, who is responsible for the technical side of it.
It takes account of the developments that followed the publication of the latest edition of Namkha: Harmonizing Energy of the Elements in 2022:
The program is based on:
Fill in the date, time, and place of birth, then press the Calculate button (if you are unsure of the birth time, enter an approximate time or simply noon). The app works out the harmonization of the elements and prepares a calculation sheet for you: a color table for every part of the Namkha, notes worth knowing about the calculation, and a picture of how the finished Namkha should look. You can read the sheet right here on the page, or download it as a PDF file that is ready to print.
You do not need to know the time zone of the birth – the app finds it on its own from the place and the date, and it knows the historical time rules, so births from long ago are handled too. If you do know the time zone, you can of course set it yourself.
The app is free to use. Its source code is public as well, so anyone can improve it or build on it. It is made with care by Namkha Encyclopedia.
The Namkha Calculator was created to benefit people around the world.
Simon Weiss dedicated his time and resources to research and development. Anna Weiss contributed her expertise – eight years of intensive study and practice in the Namkha method – along with her deep compassion, to ensure the program is accurate and complete.
Work on the program continues. We are researching aspects where multiple perspectives currently exist.
We would be genuinely grateful for your support – any amount is meaningful.
Thank you!

To calculate a Namkha, the app needs the details you enter in the form: the name (optional), gender, and the date, time, and place of birth. They are sent to our server, used for the calculation, and shown on your sheet. Nothing else is collected.
We keep a technical log of each calculation – the birth details you entered and the calculated result – so that we can find and fix mistakes. The name is treated differently: it is never written to the log as text, only as a short scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the name.
When you enter a birth place, the text you enter is sent to Photon, an outside service that provides the place suggestions. It only receives what you enter in that one field.
To keep automated abuse from overloading the calculator, each calculation is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, a service that tells people and bots apart. It runs in your browser, receives your IP address and technical details about your browser, and hands us a one-time ticket that our server checks with Cloudflare. Most of the time you will not notice it; if it is unsure, it shows a check box above the Calculate button. It is not advertising and does not follow you across other sites.
There are no user accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics services on this site. Apart from what the bot check above needs to work, we set no cookies. We do not sell or share your details with anyone.
